Utstillinga PÅFUGLØYNE I UMØRKE presenterer Øvrelids karakteristiske symboltunge figurative måleri. Arbeida tek oss med inn i ei dramatisk, eventyrleg verd der kunsthistoriske helteskikkelsar og fiksjonsfigurar møter samtidige kvardagsobjekt i overveldande dekorerte biletrom. Dei inviterer inn i ei verd som verkar gjenkjennande og framandgjerande på same tid. Øvrelid nytter digitale verktøy når han ser attende på historiske bilete og nytter element frå dei store målarane frå renessansen og barokken. Øvrelid har laga fleire nye arbeid til utstillinga.
Munan Øvrelid (f.1978) er utdanna frå Kunstakademiet i Trondheim. Han har delteke på gruppe- og separatutstillingar nasjonalt – og internasjonalt (Galleri Haaken, Oslo, Kunstnerforbundet, Oslo, The Restroom, Berlin, Galeria Luisa Strina, Sao Paolo, Brasil) . Arbeida hans fokuserer på figurativt måleri. Øvrelid er innkjøpt av offentlege og private samlingar (Nasjonalmuseet).

The exhibition, PEACOCK EYES, UNDARKNESS presents Øvrelid's characteristic symbolic figurative paintings. The artwork takes us into a dramatic, fairytale world where art-historical heroic figures and fictional figures meet contemporary objects in overwhelmingly decorated pictorial spaces. They invite you into a world that seems recognizable and alienating at the same time. Øvrelid uses digital tools to create a three-dimensional effect, as if the viewer look into a box or a room, where the surfaces becomes their own paintings. Øvrelid uses historical images and elements from the great painters from the Renaissance and Baroque, together with his own iconography, to create new and surprising constellations. Øvrelid has created several new works for the exhibition.
Munan Øvrelid (b.1978) is educated from The Art Academy i Trondheim (MA, 2006) and works mainly with figurative painting. He has participated at several groupshows and solo exibitions national and internationally (Galleri Haaken, Oslo, Kunstnerforbundet, Oslo, The Restroom, Berlin, Galeria Luisa Strina, Sao Paolo, Brasil).
